The Great Illusion (1937), the famous work of Jean Renoir, which confirmed the myth of the hospitable Switzerland, Imhoof offers smaller works that show cracks in the too optimistic monument base.

For on the pretext that “the boat was full” (as a parliamentarian expressed himself on the threshold of war), the administration sent back to death those who considered them supernumerary or dangerous to the selfish comfort of the nation.

The film “Les petits Illusions” is part of the series:

Les film du Cinéma Suisse

This project was realized under the direction of Freddy Buache, Director of the Swiss Film Archive in Lausanne: Twelve Swiss filmmakers were commissioned to create a “poetically musing” chapter with excerpts from Swiss films. It should reconstruct and trace national filmmaking from its beginnings to the present day and trace the history from Switzerland on the occassion of the 700th anniversary of the Swiss Film Archive Confideration. The result condeses a jigsaw puzzle of documents and fictions into a web that remains as a reflection of collective memory.
